The Etsy Community

Last month I had the opportunity to dress in period dress and knit at the local museum so that visitors could see the past come alive. Having no antique clothes to wear for the event, I turned to etsy.com where costumers from all over the globe offer well-made, accurate costumes.

I chose a regency gown from mrswheat01. http://www.etsy.com/shop/mrswheat01

I knitted the shawl to go with the gown, and I thought the result was an accurate picture of a woman from the 1820s, especially paired with my basket of yarn and straight, wooden knitting needles.

Etsy is a great place to find anything you need, and the shops are stocked by every kind of human. I particularly like to see men doing crafts that are not considered normal for men. MiCrochets http://www.etsy.com/shop/MiCrochets learned to crochet amigurumi so he could make Little Big Planet characters for his son. Etsy shop owner asailorwhoweaves http://www.etsy.com/shop/asailorwhoweaves is a sailor who weaves friendship bracelets. Robert, of RobertsBraceletShop http://www.etsy.com/shop/RobertsBraceletShop is a retired military man who makes jewelry.

I also search Etsy when I want a gift for my children. I have a daughter who loves bracelets, and BlessedGarden http://www.etsy.com/shop/BlessedGarden has some beautiful, unique selections.

SovietEra http://www.etsy.com/shop/SovietEra offers vintage treasures from Russia, perfect for my son who just finished a Russian history class.

Etsy is a nice place to shop, but it's also a great way to meet people. Someone interesting waits around every turn.
